Here Come the Conspiracy Theories

Last night in the finale of the 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship, Toronto FC of Major League Soccer dismantled, annihilated and destroyed the Montreal Impact 6-1 to steal away a CONCACAF Champions League spot from the Vancouver Whitecaps. Even worse for the Caps was that the team was in the stands to witness Montreal's collapse that handed the Voyageurs Cup to Toronto.

Conspiracy theories will surely fly as Montreal manager Marc Dos Santos decided to field a "B" team made up mostly of subs and reserves. Montreal faces Vancouver in a USL league match over the weekend and this results will likely add some drama to their matchup.

Toronto FC will face the Puerto Rico Islanders in a CCL qualifier.

Andrew Buchholz on his blog Sporting Madness has a great write-up fallout for all three teams involved. Here is an excerpt of what Andrew had to say:

The seemingly-impossible 6-1 victory Toronto FC pulled off against the Montreal Impact tonight gives them the Voyageurs Cup, the one fact everyone can agree on. Apart from that, there's no clear lesson or moral to draw from this one, though. It means drastically different things to fans of all the teams involved, and there's no one right answer.
